Gatecall Photos and Data Sources Rules

1. Data sources

Data in the games comes from public datasets used under their licences. The full list with links is on the “Data sources” page (/data) in the Service:

  • OPTD (Open Travel Data): flight routes, CC BY 4.0;
  • GeoNames: country and place data, CC BY 4.0;
  • OpenFlights: fleets and airlines, ODbL licence;
  • OurAirports: airports and runways, public domain;
  • Natural Earth: maps and outlines, public domain;
  • Wikidata: metro system data, CC0;
  • IANA Time Zone Database: time zones, public domain;
  • Geist: font, SIL OFL licence.

Accuracy and currency of the data are not guaranteed; some datasets are historical. The puzzles are entertainment.

2. Photos

2.1. Photos in the games (for example aircraft tails, aircraft types, airports, views from the air) come from Wikimedia Commons and other services that offer photos under free licences. We accept only CC0, public domain, CC BY and CC BY-SA. We do not use photos under NC or ND licences or “all rights reserved”.

2.2. For each photo in the Service we give the author, licence and a link to the source page on the “Photo credits” page, available from the Service. The working list is the file docs/legal/photo-credits.md.

2.3. Photos may be cropped, scaled or pixelated for the games. Adaptations of CC BY-SA photos are shared under the same licence (CC BY-SA) with attribution of the author and of the changes. A photo licence does not cover rights to trademarks visible in the photo (logos, airline colours); we use them only for identification in the game (Terms of Service, section 8.3).

2.4. We try to avoid recognisable people and visible registration marks. If you are a person in a photo or a rights holder and want to object or ask for removal, write to kontakt@gatecall.pl (Consents, Account and Contact Information, section 6).

3. Content of the “Sources” page

The page contains: the list of datasets with licences and links (section 1), the list of photos with author, licence and a link to the source (section 2), and the sentence: “Names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only for identification; Gatecall is not affiliated with them.”
